ETYMOLOGY
Jyotishmati is jyotiṣ + matī which is jyut + mna
Jyut, ज्युत्, means to shine upon, illuminate, perfectly express; ज्योतिस् jyotis means light, sun, inner sunlight, magical formula for exorcising evil spirits that bear weapons;
Mati मति, devotion, prayer, resolution, intelligence, pure mind of the lotus, Mati (मति) refers to the pure mind of the lotus; cognition via mind-senses processing world via apprehension /sensation (avagraha), speculation /discrimination (īhā), perceptual judgment (avāya) and retention (dhāraṇā). Mati root is ‘mna’ meaning ‘to think, believe, suppose, and is a direct cognate with the English word ‘mind!’ Note that in Classical Nahuatl, the language of the Aztec, ‘mati’ means to know, to perceive, to understand.
From there Jyotishmati ज्योतिष्मति means luminous mind, brilliant intellect, shining awareness, inclusive of all inner and outer light; belonging to the world of light, fire light, lightning, sun, sun in higher realms like the mind, spiritually pure, 3rd foot of Brahma. It is the name of a Bodhisattva.

NAMES
Jyotiṣmatī (ज्योतिष्मती) is the oil from the seeds in the berries of the medicinal plant also known as Celastrus paniculatus, Māla-kaṅgaṇī, and Valluvali in Tamil as well as the following Sanskrit synonyms: Svarṇalatā, Analaprabhā, Jyotirlatā, Kaṭabhī, Supiṅgalā, Dīptā, Medhyā, Matidā, Durjarā, Sarasvatī and Amṛtā.

Here it is very interesting to see Shiva as the Jyotishmati tree. Note it looks like a Mountain Ash. I have seen this herb in India of course but also in the forest outside of Germantown, NY as well as on Isla Mujeras near Cancun.
